Inspection of accounts

Inspection of accounts

Residents have the right to inspect our detailed financial accounts, ledgers and records.

Every year we are required to open our accounting records for public inspection and challenge over a set period of time (30 working days). These rights allow residents to check any spending under the £500 threshold without having to submit a Freedom of Information Act request.

Inspecting our accounts

During the inspection period, any person may inspect our accounts for the last financial year and certain related documents (comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts) at our Town Hall offices. They may also make copies of the accounts and documents.

Asking questions
If you are a registered elector in our area, you (or your representative), may ask the auditor questions about the accounts. Information about how to do this will be given in the advertisement.

Making objections
An elector in our area, or their representative, may make an objection about our accounts.

If you have any queries about inspecting our accounts, please contact us.
