Mayoress' chain

Mayoress' chain

The chain (or collarette) is worn by either the mayoress (female) or consort (male) on civic occasions and during mayoral events.

This chain was donated in 1927 by Violet Rose Markham whilst she was mayor of Chesterfield. The chain is made of silver gilt.

Medallion counterweight

The medallion counterweight is fixed to the back of the mayoress' collarette.

This silver piece was designed and created by Sarah Stevenson, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The mayor's office won the title of National Civic Office in 2011 and the winning prize money was used to fund the production of the medallion.

The design, based around the Pomegranate emblem of Chesterfield, has been assayed (tested) and laser marked at the Sheffield Assay office with a hallmark and the inscription: "Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 2012".
