The adaptations process
This is the process that your adaptation application will follow.

Adaptation requested
- request is made by contacting the housing and health team on 01246 345700
- application can be made by the tenant or someone acting on their behalf
Minor adaptations - for example grab rail, stair rail, lever taps
- minor adaptation applications go straight to the approval stage.
Major adaptations - for example stair lift, ramped access, level access shower
Background assessment
- a housing officer will contact the tenant or representative for further information and send the report to the social care team at Derbyshire County Council
Social care assessment
- an occupational therapist or social care practitioner will recommend if the adaptations are necessary
Derbyshire adaptations panel
- the recommendations will be considered by the panel
- the panel will also consider whether alternatives to the adaptations are more suitable for the applicant
Adaptations approved
- work is agreed with the tenant, and Chesterfield Borough Council seeks any relevant approvals (such as planning or highways)
Contractor
- plans and specification are sent to Chesterfield Borough Council's contractor for the work to be carried out
Adaptation work completed
