The adaptations process

This is the process that your adaptation application will follow.

Adaptation application flow chart


Adaptation requested

  • request is made by contacting the housing and health team on 01246 345700
  • application can be made by the tenant or someone acting on their behalf

Minor adaptations - for example grab rail, stair rail, lever taps


Major adaptations - for example stair lift, ramped access, level access shower

Background assessment

  • a housing officer will contact the tenant or representative for further information and send the report to the social care team at Derbyshire County Council

Social care assessment

  • an occupational therapist or social care practitioner will recommend if the adaptations are necessary

Derbyshire adaptations panel

  • the recommendations will be considered by the panel
  • the panel will also consider whether alternatives to the adaptations are more suitable for the applicant

Adaptations approved

  • work is agreed with the tenant, and Chesterfield Borough Council seeks any relevant approvals (such as planning or highways)

Contractor

  • plans and specification are sent to Chesterfield Borough Council's contractor for the work to be carried out
