Local connection to the Chesterfield area
When we let properties, priority is usually given to applicants who have a local connection to Chesterfield.
An applicant has a local connection to Chesterfield if they:
- currently live in Chesterfield and have done so for a continuous period of six months or more
- are not currently living in Chesterfield but have previously lived in the borough for at least three out of the last five years
- live outside Chesterfield but support or require support from a family member or carer who has been resident in Chesterfield for at least six months or more
- have been in permanent employment in Chesterfield for the last six months:
- if the applicant works across a number of areas or works for an employer based out of the borough, local connection will be determined by the employee’s main base of operations
- permanent employment is considered to be a contract with an employer that is not fixed term
- where an employee does not work a regular number of hours per week, they will need to show that they have a regular patter of work to qualify for a local connection
- have an accepted homelessness duty with Chesterfield Borough Council
If there are no successful bids from applicants who have a local connection to Chesterfield, we will consider bids from applicants who do not have a local connection.
We consider bids in the following order:
- local connection to Chesterfield then priority date within band A, B+, B, C then D
- other applicants registered with Chesterfield Borough Council or other Home Options partner then priority date within band A, B+, B, C then D
