Construction Skills Hub

Construction Skills Hub

The Construction Skills Hub enhances the existing construction training offer by providing the opportunity for local learners to develop their skills in a live on-site centre.

Construction skills hubActing as a catalyst for construction related training and employment, the Hub will initially be situated at the Devonshire Group’s Mastin Moor site which has planning permission for 650 homes, a care facility, local centre and extensive parkland.

The hub is managed by Chesterfield College and the University of Derby. The first cohort of learners started at Chesterfield College in September 2023 and moved into the hub in September 2024. They have gained on-site experience through the groundworks for the Hub. The first cohort of students all passed their first year and most have moved into their second year. New learners have also joined the hub in their first year of Level 1 or Level 2 studies.

It will provide training in site and bench joinery, brickwork, groundworks and electrical installation but in time will offer opportunities in retrofit and green technologies. It will be open to school leavers and other residents seeking to train or retrain and will engage directly with local schools to provide insights about careers in the construction industry.

Over ten years, the Hub aims to provide careers insights, training and work experience for over 5,000 learners.
