Supporting the local economy - Chesterfield Waterside

As with most developments in Chesterfield, there is a commitment to ensure the development creates value for the local economy by using local contractors and suppliers but by also helping to develop the skills of local people.

Around £2.2m of orders for supplies and contracts, like painting, has been placed with local businesses so far. This will help ensure the cost of development supports the local economy.

There is also lots of ongoing work to support skills development. A time-lapse camera has been installed over the site and is being shared with students at Chesterfield College to help construction students learn more about the build process.

Further onsite learning activities for students have taken place including a visit by Level 3 Construction Management students which marked the start of an eight-week activity partnership with Chesterfield College. This programme provided students with an insight into the whole build process, focusing on safety, cost, quality and time.
