Clinical waste and sharps collections
We can provide a clinical waste service to dispose of your medical or hygiene waste from home.
Find out about:
- arranging a new clinical waste collection
- cancelling an existing clinical waste collection
- sharps boxes
Arranging a clinical waste collection
Ask your community healthcare worker how to dispose of your clinical waste - this could be your district nurse, doctor's surgery, continence service or other healthcare professional.
They will complete a risk assessment based on the type of waste being disposed of, and we will then decide if a special clinical waste collection is needed. You don't need to contact us to arrange a clinical waste collection, your healthcare worker will do it for you.
There is no charge for clinical waste collections from domestic properties, but we do charge for making collections from residential care homes.
Cancelling a clinical waste collection
Contact us to cancel an existing clinical waste collection. This could be for you or someone that you act on behalf of, such as a family member, friend, or someone you care for.
We will need to know
- why you want to cancel the clinical waste collection
- the address we are collecting the clinical waste from
Please note - the clinical waste collection will be cancelled immediately.
If you still have clinical waste to dispose of please don’t submit this form now – you should only cancel the service after the waste has been collected.
Protecting your privacy - find out how we keep your information safe.
If you have 'sharps' waste, such as syringes, hypodermic needles, or finger-stick devices (such as for testing blood sugar levels) your healthcare worker or doctor's surgery will give you a yellow 'sharps' box that you put them into and keep at home.
When the box is full you should return it and exchange it for an empty one - your healthcare worker or doctor's surgery will let you know where to take it. Where this is not possible, contact your healthcare worker for advice on what to do.
If you have a problem or query with your clinical waste collection, please contact us.
Our streetscene team will collect and dispose of needles found in public places, find out more here.
