The Frost Fair

The Frost Fair

During the little ice age the temperatures in England plummeted, rivers froze and the frost fairs were born.

These lively winter carnivals took place on the ice where people could indulge in food, spirits and fun.

When the River Thames froze over, food merchants, ice skating, games and tournaments appeared on the ice. But as the climate warmed up, dangers appeared and 1814 saw the last ever Frost Fair take place.
